Tottenham Hotspurs delight Pochettino as Harry Kane ends barren spell

Spurs have won one and drawn two of their three league matches and Kane has not scored in 10 games since netting for England in a friendly against Turkey before the European Championships.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is glad he decided not to offload forward Heung-Min Son this summer having seen him score twice against Stoke on Saturday.

Christian Eriksen twisted and turned on the right to beat Joe Allen and pick out Son with a low cross, with the South Korea worldwide doing the rest by finding the bottom corner with a clever first-time volley.

Stoke manager Mark Hughes: “They will be a test for us, they’re a good side with good energy and lots of pace and power so we will have to be able to match that”.

Hughes was furious at a booking handed to his winger Marko Arnautovic for simulation and his angry reaction towards fourth official Jon Moss led to Taylor giving the Welshman his marching orders.

Son Heung-Min has scored 4 goals in his last 4 league games. “Yes”, Pochettino was quoted as saying in the Express. We will rotate the squad and every player will have the chance to show his quality.

This strike was special for Kane as it came ahead of previous season-opening goals. “We’ve only just started this season but this victory is important for us”.

“The Premier League doesn’t like that due to their image overseas”.

Shawcross stabbed just wide for Stoke early in the second half, before two Spurs goals in three minutes ended the game as a contest.

Stoke came into the game without a win so far in this campaign, but the additions of Wilfried Bony and Bruno Martins Indi, on loan from Manchester City and Porto respectively, had added to boss Hughes’ options.

“Last season was tough for him”, Pochettino said. Following a hard start to the season, last season’s golden boot victor opened his account this time around to score his fiftieth Premier League goal for Tottenham.

Spurs return to the continent’s elite competition on Wednesday when they welcome Monaco to North London, though it will be at Wembley, rather than White Hart Lane, where they entertain clubs in the Champions League this term while they transform their stadium.

According to the Argentine coach, late deals to bring in Sissoko, as well as teenager Juan Pablo Gonzalez Velasco and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou, will equip Tottenham with the depth they need to fight on four fronts, having qualified automatically for the Champions League courtesy of last season’s third-place finish.
