TOTTENHAM, Pochettino: “I’m pleased Son made a decision to stay with us”

Speaking after the match, Pochettino did confirm he considered the player’s future after the end of the 2015-16 season, but believes his decision to give him another chance has now been vindicated.

On the performance, the Tottenham manager was quoted as saying by the BBC: “I’m very pleased”.

Stoke manager Mark Hughes: “They will be a test for us, they’re a good side with good energy and lots of pace and power so we will have to be able to match that”.

“When momentum shifts and the game is getting a little bit pressurised, in terms of going against you, we’ve got to recognise those moments in the game and adjust our play accordingly”, he said.

– Stoke have won just one of their last seven Premier League matches at home (D2 L4).

“One footnote to this fixture: there have been eight Premier League meetings between the two clubs on Stoke soil – and only twice has the game ended without a red card”.

Mauricio Pochettino takes his side to face Stoke less than five months after a convincing win in the Potteries left him thinking Tottenham were on the verge of Premier League title glory.

“Always in our minds we are winners, but then you have to deliver and maybe we didn’t compete in the way that we need to compete to win the league”.

Sissoko and Lamela came off the bench and looked busy as Spurs coasted confidently in the second half, but on this evidence, it will be hard for Pochettino to drop Son for Wednesday’s Champions League opener against Monaco.

Kane’s goal, the fourth of the afternoon, was his first in 10 for his club and country, dating back to England’s pre-Euro 2016 friendly win over Turkey in May, and also his 50th in the top flight in just 87 appearances.

Pochettino said: “White Hart Lane has been a good home for us recently and now we need to make Wembley our home too, which I am sure we can do”.

The Welshman’s frustrations boiled over when Arnautovic was booked for diving after a collision, and he screamed at fourth official Jonathan Moss and Taylor before being sent to the stands.

“Our first meeting when they arrived from their holidays was an hour and a half and I told them all my feelings and my emotions”, Pochettino revealed. The assistant referee had not flagged for a foul (on Jon Walters) and the referee then thought it was the right decision to book Marko when he was taking evasive action.

“You can use it as an excuse but for me it is in the past and it is good to see the players forget the past because football is in the present, like life”.
