Tottenham strike back for 1-1 draw with Liverpool

James Milner had given Liverpool a deserved lead with a penalty shortly before half-time, but Spurs got their reward for a spell of sustained second-half pressure when Rose drilled home the equaliser.

After a brace against Burton Albion in the League Cup, the England striker may have expected to start at White Hart Lane, however Klopp opted to go with Roberto Firmino in a false nine role. A succession of thwarted chances preceded a beautifully-taken goal from Rose, although it was some woeful defending that presented him with the chance to secure a second draw in three Premier League matches this season.

“We brought Origi on because it made sense to bring someone on for the counter attack, but we didn’t find him”.

“After the game we analyse and we can’t believe how big the opportunities would have been with one more pass”.

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur played out an entertaining draw on Saturday afternoon as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

“I think if you’re just talking about sheer technical ability and an eye for a goal, he’s above them all”.

“We have to accept it”.

Tottenham’s Danny Rose celebrates with his teammate Vincent Janssen after scoring a goal. We had wonderful moments with passing and all that stuff, the direction in our game.

Pochettino was the more satisfied of the two managers afterwards and hailed the “fantastic character” shown by his players as they fought to establish a foothold in the match.

But they left White Hart Lane yesterday afternoon with the same frustration of drawing a game they hoped for more from.

For starters, Spurs are able to show a risky attacking side in the opening minutes of the game but over time, they start to fade.

Pochettino saved particular praise for Michel Vorm – the keeper, a stand in for Higo Lloris, pulling off some excellent saves – and Eric Dier, who moved over to right back to cover for Walker. “We decided that Milly can play (there), especially with the style of play we think we should play”, said the German. But we showed we can be good.

Liverpool also looked unsafe when attacking the space vacated by Tottenham’s adventurous full-backs Kyle Walker and Danny Rose, while their pressing in midfield and in the final third of the pitch was far more effective than the hosts. It’s not easy when you play a team who are ideal on the counter attack and you need to take risks.
