Calls and messages for the bus operator, City Sightseeing San Francisco, weren’t immediately returned. The Examiner’s Chris Roberts cites Union Square staffers who “say [the] double decker tour bus ‘lost control, ‘ ran into traffic”. The crash happened at Post and Stockton streets where a new Apple store is being built.
Police Ofc. Albie Esparza said the double-decker bus started picking up speed in the 500 block of Post Street.
Four people were in critical condition, three others were moderately injured and the 11 others suffered minor injuries, San Francisco Fire Department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said. The bus first hit a bicyclist, causing life-threatening injuries.
Officer Esparza said to avoid the area, which will be shut down until further notice. They are looking into mechanical issues, drug and alcohol use as part of standard protocol.
Firefighters had to extricate the two people under the bus as well as one trapped on the top deck, Hayes-White said. “It was gut-wrenching when I came up”.

Zimmer said that as soon as the bus stopped, good Samaritans stepped up and tried to clear the area for emergency vehicles. Stay with ABC7 News for the latest details on this developing story.
