England will not force any player to tour Bangladesh, limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan said, in the wake of the July 1 attack on a Dhaka cafe in which 22 people were killed.

England cricketers will not be put under pressure to commit to the winter tour of Bangladesh. The BCB described their visit as a “positive” one and said there was no immediate timeframe in which England were expected to make a decision.

Australia have cancelled senior and under-19 tours to Bangladesh in the previous year and Dickason has spent two weeks assessing the safety of players, supporters and media both there and in India, where England are due to tour after completing their commitments in Bangladesh.

“The briefing will be Thursday evening, with head of security Reg Dickason, a rep from the PCA and John Carr from the European Central Bank”, said Morgan.

“They’ve been doing the recce and we’ll be debriefed by them”.

Asked whether there is scope for players to withdraw from the tour should it go ahead, as occurred in 2001 when Andy Caddick and Robert Croft missed a trip to India following the September 11 terrorist attacks on NY and Washington, Morgan replied: “There’s always room for a personal decision”.

England won’t force players to tour Bangladesh, says Morgan was posted in Sports of TheNews International – https://www.thenews.com.pk on August 24, 2016 and was last updated on August 24, 2016.

“I’m looking forward to the meeting because it’s a decision you’d prefer to get out of the way sooner rather than later or it becomes a distraction”, “The Guardian” quoted Morgan as saying on Tuesday. “There’s always room for a personal decision, you also have to understand guys might have different priorities”.

Following the Sep 11 terrorist attacks on NY and Washington, former England fast bowler Andy Caddick and spinner Robert Croft had pulled out of their 2001-02 tour to India.

Earlier, this month, fast bowler James Anderson stated that the decision regarding the tour should be left to the authorities and not to the players.
