Town holds vigil for slain woman found in woods
A driver’s license photo released by the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office showing Vanessa Marcotte of NY, whose body was found Sunday night in the woods about a half-mile from her mother’s home in the town of Princeton, Massachusetts, about 40 miles west of Boston.

Vanessa Marcotte, 27, was found dead near her mother’s home in Princeton, Massachusetts, a small town of fewer than 3,500 people.
When asked about the similarities to the death of New York City jogger Karina Vetrano, who died last Tuesday and may have been sexually assaulted, police said they are not ruling out the possibility that the two are connected. A message posted online by Reverend Linda Michel read, “As a response to the murder of Vanessa Marcotte there will be a gathering … to show the town’s support for her family and to show that we are a community that responds to tragedy with love, not fear”.
A police dog discovered her body in a wooded area about a half-mile away from her mother’s home.
She was visiting from New York City, where she worked at Google.
Mass. State Police announced Tuesday that a anonymous tip line has been established in hopes of solving the case.
Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. told reporters yesterday a dedicated tip line police set up for the investigation has been flooded with calls – launching investigators to follow up on hundreds of leads.
Google, based in Mountain View, Calif., said it was “deeply shocked and saddened” by Marcotte’s killing. “After that, the next day, she was dead”, Marcotte said as he teared up.
At Vetrano’s funeral, her mother, Cathy, said, “My daughter is a force to be reckoned with”, the Daily News reported.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Marcotte graduated from Boston University in 2011, stayed in the Boston area for several years and worked at WordStream, an online advertising company, and Vistaprint.
The death is being investigated as a homicide.
Marcotte’s death is similar to that of a New York City woman killed while on a run through a Queens park last week. “She was just a delightful person”, said WordStream founder, Larry Kim. I must stress that we do not know if this is a random act.

Google released a statement upon learning the news, according to CBS Boston. She was described as much-loved among her teammates, a passionate volunteer worker, and lover of Boston’s sports.
