Residents of a Colorado town arebeing warned not to use their tap water because wells have been contaminated by the marijuana chemical THC.

There are indications that one of the town’s five wells was tampered with, but it’s not known if the water was deliberately tainted, according to Yowell.

He said: ‘I wouldn’t be doing my job for the community if we just wrote this off’.

“We are happy to announce that the water advisory is canceled immediately”, the sheriff’s department said.

‘Fresh water will be coming into town for the public as soon as possible’.

Saturday morning’s update from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said the initial test kit results are now believed to have been false positives.

No one has gotten sick from the possible contamination, officials said yesterday, and more tests are planned today to actually confirm whether or not THC is in the water – and, if so, at what levels.

Residents have been picking up bottles of drinking water since 7 a.m. Friday at the local town hall. In short, some field tests conducted on the water supply got positive results for THC and some got negative results. County officials also said the well exhibited signs of forced entry, but officials are unclear when the damage occurred, according to the Denver Post.

“I can’t tell you if it’s raw THC that goes through and it’s just dumped into the system and then brought into the loop system”.

Current studies from the National Institutes of Health and Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics have both pointed out THC’s extremely low solubility with water.

Health effects from ingesting drinking water contaminated with THC depend on several factors, including how much THC is in the water, how much water a person drinks, and how long the person is drinking the water, the department said.

Yet, officials are saying that the possibility of a THC contamination is serious enough to take precautions.
