It’s the school’s job to teach the kids.

The Plover Police Department hopes the ordinance can make children in the community feel safe.

“What really caught my eye was the association with teen suicide with violence with kids in schools”, Ault said.

Surveys show up to 20 percent of students have experienced bullying on school property, and another 15 percent have been bullied online.

I do believe that there is a problem with bullying in schools, but I do not know if implementing an ordinance that fines the parents is the right direction to go.

“If my kids broke something or something happened, I was responsible for it”, he told the Stevens Point Journal.

Parents would be ticketed $124 if their child bullies again with 90 days. “It’s not the police’s job to raise your kids”, said Ault.

“I certainly can’t imagine you don’t get good results when including parents and guardians in what’s going on with their children”, said Jeanne Koepke, the principal of McDill Elementary School in Portage County.

Parents in one Wisconsin town will soon find themselves in trouble if their children bully other kids.

Ault said the first offense will only result in a warning and an offer of help for the parents. The police chief says so far police have received no bullying complaints.
