Toyota adding nearly 1.6 million vehicles to Takata air-bag recall
The largest automotive recall in history centers around the defective Takata Corp. air bags that are found in millions of vehicles that are manufactured by BMW, Chrysler, Daimler Trucks, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru and Toyota.

Takata has had to deal with a host of problems ever since it was found that the company’s airbag inflators had faulty parts which could explode in certain conditions and cause shrapnel to enter the cabin, potentially harming drivers and passengers.
The U.S. government said earlier this month that it was expanding and accelerating the ongoing recall of Takata air bags.
Earlier this month, Takata Corp said it was declaring another 35 million to 40 million USA inflators defective at the urging of US regulators, a move that more than doubles the number of inflators recalled.
This week reports from other 17 automakers are due with regards to recalling Takata vehicles.
It results in an inflator rupture when the air bag deploys.
Tiidas built between October 2006 and December 2012 are now also on the list, with a total of 41,154 vehicles affected in Australia. The vehicles added to the recall Monday are: 2009 -2011 Toyota Corolla and Matrix; 2006-2011 Toyota Yaris; 2010-2011 Toyota 4Runner; 2011 Toyota Sienna; 2008-2011 Scion xB; 2007-2011 Lexus ES; 2010-2011 Lexus GX; 2006-2011 Lexus IS.
Depending on the vehicle model, dealers will check and will replace defective air bag inflators or the air bag assembly at free of cost.
A quick check using the vehicle’s VIN can be performed on the NHTSA website, safecar.gov/vin.
