There aren’t any mechanical updates for the refreshed 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser, as the luxury off-roader instead adopts a few modernized styling tweaks, new interior and exterior colors, and the suite of Toyota’s active safety technology. The front fenders, bumpers and hood also have been slightly refreshed. While side profile doesn’t have much towards distinction from the older model, rear fascia gets a license plate recess chrome garnish that stretches to culminate into the fresh pair of tail lamps, increasing the width-appeal of the revamped SUV.

The Land Cruiser is bucking the auto industry’s downsizing trend. Soft padding has been adopted for areas that directly contact occupants’ limbs and support their bodies, with special attention paid to the thickness of materials and the treatment of edges. In addition to upgraded detailing, Toyota also consolidated various switches and displays into groups organized by function into the center stack. Hairline decorations also adorn the meter board which, along with improved textures, now features a 4.2-inch TFT color LCD screen. The seat covers use genuine semi aniline leather. With these renovations, the motor is more energetic, producing 7 more hp summing up to 268 hp max power and same peak torque of 650 Nm. The gasoline unit soldiers on with 308 PS (227 kW) and 439 Nm (324 lb-ft), but it now meets Euro 5 regulations and has gained a revised air-injection system to lower emissions and enable a faster warm up from a cold start.
The Toyota Land Cruiser facelift is already available in Japan and will go on sale in Australia in October, followed by other markets shortly. Toyota Safety Sense P is a higher-spec version of the Toyota Safety Sense C package, which debuted earlier this year on the Corolla in Japan.

The Toyota Safety Sense P package includes Pre-collision System with pedestrian detection, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Automatic High Beam (AHB), Tire Pressure Warning System, and Radar Cruise Control (with brake control).Apart from those, the driver can keep and eye on a panoramic multi-terrain monitor, to judge safety conditions all around the LC. The shape of the road surface ahead of the vehicle and the inclination of the vehicle can be checked intuitively via a front view rotating display-another world-first feature1. This is made possible by new radar and front camera monitoring systems as well as other sensors.
