USA retailer Toys R Us said it will hire 40,000 seasonal workers for the upcoming holiday shopping season, down from 45,000 a year ago, as it aims to offer more working hours to new and current employees.

Kohl’s and Toys R Us announced seasonal hiring plans Wednesday. Depending on the individual, seasonal Toys “R” Us store employees average 18 to 20 hours per week, and up to 30 hours during peak season according to the company. “This will also help ensure we are fully staffed with overall labor needs comparable to a year ago in order to serve our customers in stores and online”. Many like to tout that a sizable share of people who work in these jobs wind up staying on as permanent employees. In 2014, seasonal workers averaged seven hours a week and were eligible for a maximum of 20 hours a week. About 4,400 of the jobs will be in the Chicago area, where UPS has jobs for drivers, driver helpers and package handlers.
