The fan ran on to the pitch and started attacking the official, Volkan Bayarslan, pushing him to the ground and punching him.

It came as his side were 4-0 down to Fenerbahce and after fans had thrown a series of missiles onto the field of play.

The game was abandoned in the 89th minute.

The fan cowardly slams the official from behind and then kicks and punches the whistle blower as he lays dazed on the field.

Assistant referee Volkan Bayarslan was assaulted by a fan during the match.

There has so far been no comment from Trabzonspor.

Trabzonspor were behind 0-4, but the scoreline is no excuse for the behaviour of this fan, who was quickly piled on by numerous security guards.

Referee Bulent Yildrim ordered both teams to return to their dressing rooms, before abandoning the match.

Fenerbahce are likely to be awarded the win for the game meaning the point difference between themselves and Besiktas will be reduced to just one with four weeks to go.
