“There are other issues as well…” Her father claimed that she was killed by her younger brother, Waseem, in the name of honour. “She was on the ground floor while our parents were asleep on the roof floor”.
Baloch’s death produced a mixed reaction on the same social media outlets that helped fuel her popularity. Qandeel had come to celebrate Eid with her family in Multan and that’s when Waseem chose to end her sister’s life.
“It was around 10.45pm when I gave her a tablet… and then killed her”.
The father alleged that Waseem had taken this extreme step at the behest of his brother Mohammad Aslam Shaheen. Her brother had been threatening her over her Facebook posts and videos, said the police. “According to the Associate Press, each year, hundreds of Pakistani women who “[violate] conservative norms” are killed by family members and it appears that Baloch is one of this year’s victims. “It seems to be a case of honour killing but we are investigating it”, district police chief Azhar Akram said.
After that incident, Baloch said she had received death threats and had asked the Interior Ministry for protection. My friends would send videos and pictures of her on my mobile.
Model Qandeel Baloch’s funeral prayer has been offered in Dera Ghazi Khan’s Shah Sadar Din area on Sunday, 24 News reported.
