Trailer for horror comedy The Final Girls
Debuting at SXSW earlier this year, The Final Girls got fairly positive reviews, with Variety’s Dennis Harvey calling it “good fun that should delight genre fans” with “an accessible in-joke”. While most of the trailer’s digs take aim at ’80s horror culture, 2015 teens are mocked as well, with Middleditch’s character pausing the action to take a selfie with the murder. I don’t know which way “The Final Girls” will land, but the talent involved certainly has me excited. It’s self-aware but not obnoxious.

Taissa Farmiga (“American Horror Story”), and Malin Akerman (Watchmen) all star in the horror-comedy. Max and her friends find themselves in an alternate dimension where they became part of the movie and have to figure out how to survive, using their knowledge of horror movie tropes.

The first trailer for The Final Girls has arrived, showing Taissa Farmiga as Max, a teenager who heads out with her friends for a screening of her late mother’s final movie: Camp Bloodbath. They soon realize they are trapped inside the cult classic movie and must team up with the fictional and ill-fated camp counselors, including Maxs mom as the scream queen, to battle the films machete-wielding killer.
