Normalcy at the accident site was restored at 8.15 AM.

Railway officials found in their preliminary inquiry that though cautioned about an approaching train, the van driver ignored it and drove ahead. However, the driver of the van allegedly neglected him and went through, causing the van to hit with the Varanasi-Allahabad passenger train.

The relatives of those who died will get Rs 2 lakh each, while Rs 1 lakh will be given in case of grievous injury and Rs 20,000 in case of simple injury.

Report says India has a number of unmanned rail crossings, and such accidents are common.
