The passenger train collided with a lorry at a railway crossing northeast of Nuremberg.

The train was carrying around 40 people when it rammed into the truck near the Bavarian city of Freihung on Thursday.

Police said one body had been recovered by early Friday morning, and rescuers were still looking for the train driver. Two people are believed to have been in the lorry, one of whom was able to get out.

Bild reported that the heavy transport truck had been carrying a USA military vehicle.

According to local police, an explosion took place after the collision, and local police, firefighters and rescue workers have launched large-scale operation immediately.
