Amir Khan will have to produce one of the greatest displays ever seen by a British boxer if he is to beat WBC middleweight champion Saul Alvarez in Las Vegas on Saturday, according to Ricky Hatton.
Khan wasn’t going to let his chance get away, even if Canelo Alvarez is a heavy favorite when they meet in the ring Saturday night for a piece of the middleweight title.
Khan is stepping up two weight classes in a bid to win Canelo’s WBC middleweight title and goes into the fight in good form having won his last five. That was fought at a catchweight of 155 pounds, which will be the case for this bout, as well.
Most were Mexicans, here to enjoy Cinco de Mayo, and to cheer on their latest boxing hero.
“It’s in my future plans”, said Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs). Still, it’s a stretch for Khan, who fought his last three fights at the 147-pound welterweight limit, and before that spent most of his career at 140 pounds.
Complex News took a trip to Oakland, CA, to visit the Khan training camp and discussed a range of topics, including his youth, fighting Canelo, and how training under Virgil Hunter has made him a better fighter.
NO TRUMP: Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, a big fight fan, turned down an invitation from promoter Oscar De La Hoya to sit ringside. “They both have huge followings so as far as making money goes, it’s a good fight”, Trout – who is now preparing for his own world title clash on May 21 – exclusively told World Boxing News.
“I’m going to hit Canelo and he’s probably not going to feel it, but skill is going to win it”, said Khan.
Khan claims the bold leap to middleweight has not slowed his renowned hand movement, but he will start as a big underdog as far as the bookmakers are concerned.
“I want to make history and create a legacy”.
Where is the Amir Khan fight?
“I think that Saul could be considered not only the top draw but the most popular around the world”, De La Hoya said. “I wouldn’t call it an upset [in boxing skills] if Amir wins”, he said.

It is only fair to say now that Khan and Alvarez, both have teamed up against Trump. “. It’s a fight that I want to see, that the world wants to see”. I know he’s going to be bigger and stronger but that’s not going to make a difference in this fight.
