Authorities said the Manhattan bombing and New Jersey pipe bomb did not appear to be connected, though they were not ruling anything out.

In New Jersey on Saturday, a pipe bomb exploded in a trash can on the route of a Marine Corps run before the start of the race, causing no injuries but forcing its cancellation.

“I want New Yorkers to be confident when they go back to work on Monday that NY is up and running and we’re doing everything that we need to do”, he said.

The officials are investigating the incidents.

The incident unfolded after two men found the backpack in a waste basket on North Broad Street and Julian Place around 8 p.m. Sunday, the mayor said.

On late Saturday a pressure cooker bomb exploded in Manhattan’s Chelsea district, wounding 29 people.

NJTV reported on its Facebook Live stream that the detonation of the first device happened when an Federal Bureau of Investigation robot tried to disable the device while cutting a wire at 1240 a.m. ET.

One New Yorker, Anthony Stanhope, was in his apartment when the blast went off nearby.

The men reported the package to police after they “saw wires and a pipe”, Bollwage told reporters. A robot named “Jinx” was being used to dismantle the bomb at the time of the powerful blast and inadvertently detonated the device.

“The robots that were going in to disarm it cut a wire and it exploded”, Bollwage told CBS2’s Andrea Grymes.

Police checked all garbage cans in the immediate area, but found no other suspicious items.

NJ Transit service was suspended early Monday between Newark Liberty Airport and Elizabeth, and New Jersey-bound Amtrak trains were being held at New York Penn Station, officials said, while New York-bound Amtrak trains were being held in Trenton.

Elizabeth is about 16 miles southwest of New York City. Amtrak and NJ Transit serive had resumed with delays by 6 a.m.

Multiple reports say the bureau is questioning the car’s five occupants at an office in Lower Manhattan.

All of those who were injured by the explosion had been released from hospital by Sunday afternoon.

Shortly after Saturday night’s explosion, a second suspicious device was found a few blocks away on 27th Street. He is now in custody after a shootout with police, sources said.
