Travel Woes Continue to Mount for Delta Flyers
The lingering effects of Delta’s outage could still be felt at Bradley International Airport Tuesday, where the airline had six cancellations and three delays, an airport spokeswoman said.

Faasuamalie said local Delta flights had resumed normal operations yesterday morning. Thousands more flights were delayed. “Our flights had been bumped from Delta to Air Canada, and our flight was going to be at 11:00 through Air Canada”. The airline added that additional delays and cancellations are expected. Delta merged with Northwest Airlines eight years ago.

As of Monday afternoon, Delta only operated 1,679 of its almost 6,000 scheduled flights.
West is giving the airline’s most detailed description yet of what happened Monday to trigger a global outage of its computer systems.
More than 1,000 people spent the night at Narita Airport outside Tokyo because of the shutdown.
In a video posted on the airline’s website, CEO Ed Bastian said Delta probably will have cancelations and delays Wednesday too, although he didn’t give numbers.
Delta canceled about 300 flights around the world this morning as it continued what it called a “reset” of its system of 6,000 flights a day.
“The meltdown highlights the vulnerability in Delta’s computer system, and raises questions about whether a recent wave of four US airline mergers that created four large carriers controlling 85% of domestic capacity has built companies too large and too reliant on IT systems that date from the 1990s”. Last month, the average Delta flight was 87 per cent full.
Confusion among passengers on Monday was compounded as Delta’s flight-status updates crashed as well. Instead of staying at home or poolside at a hotel until the airline could fix the mess, many passengers learned about the gridlock only after they reached the airport.
“I have had zero communications from Delta”, said John Chapman, of Rome, while waiting in Atlanta for a flight to Milwaukee for an energy conference. “The company could have done a better job of explaining … what was happening”. He said the airline’s investigation into the cause of the outage was continuing but said there were no indications of hacking.
Delta’s utility provider Georgia Power blamed the failure of a switch gear at Delta HQ as the likely cause of the outage. Customers who gave their email addresses to Delta will receive the voucher in about a week, says the airline.
