The Washington Nationals have called up shortstop Trea Turner from Triple A Syracuse and placed first baseman/outfielder Tyler Moore on the disabled list, the team announced Friday.

After officially joining the Nationals organization on June 14 – he was a player to be named until the one-year anniversary of signing his first pro contract – Turner batted.

Ranked the No. 9 [Baseball America] and No. 12 [MLB.com] best prospect in all of baseball, Turner arrives in the Major Leagues having hit. 322 (73-for-227) with 13 doubles, three triples, five home runs, 35 RBI, 24 walks, 11 stolen bases and 31 runs scored in 58 games for San Diego’s Double-A affiliate, the San Antonio Missions, to open his 2015 season. 314 with a. 353 on-base percentage, 59 hits and 14 stolen bases. 740 OPS, respectively. Turner would also likely be a defensive upgrade at shortstop over Desmond, who has 23 errors this season. Yunel Escobar continues to hit, and between Anthony Rendon and Danny Espinosa, second base is already pretty crowded.

Turner went through an odd process after the trade with the Nationals.

Earlier this week, we talked with Victor Barbosa of 27 Outs Baseball about what has impressed him about Trea Turner during our midseason Syracuse Chiefs update. Up until the last two days, Turner had exclusively played shortstop as a professional. Adding Turner to the mix means the Nationals will have two starting infielders riding the bench the rest of the season.
