Watch what happened when a lion charged at a little boy in a zoo in Japan. He continued to rub his head in confusion while watching the lion warily until it stopped its advances.

And it was caught on video, which is good because the two-year-old turned his back right when the lion lunged and he missed the whole thing.

However, keepers at the zoo in Chiba, Japan, said the animal just wanted to play with the toddler.

After a staring contest, the male lion ran toward the boy and tried to jump on him.

Astonishingly the fearless young boy doesn’t run away but rather turns around to face the lion and stumbles backwards.

The good news is that a glass wall was separating the two when the lion pounced and smashed his face into the wall. Sorry lion, but no parent will allow such a play date.

The zookeepers at the Zoological Park told NTV the lion often does this with children and his charge was really nothing more than a playful action.

The startled boy stumbles back when the massive animal rams into the glass.
