SAN ANTONIO (AP) – Police charged star TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin with felony assault of a police officer stemming from a bar fight early Thursday and he was suspended for this weekend’s Alamo Bowl game against No. 15 Oregon. He posted a $5,000 bond and was released from police custody later that day. He will miss Saturday’s Valero Alamo Bowl matchup with Oregon.
Boykin was arrested shortly before 2 a.m. outside a bar near San Antonio’s famous downtown River Walk. Multiple officers threatened to taser Boykin before he finally subsided, NBC San Antonio reported.
San Antonio Police Chief William McManus confirmed during an afternoon press gathering that Boykin struck the officer but McManus said it isn’t known whether Boykin was trying to hit the officer or swinging at another person. The station report said bike officers came upon Boykin as he was taking swings, and he indiscriminately hit an officer. “In any event, the officer was struck in the face and suffered injuries”.
There have also been reports that Boykin was in his room at 12 a.m. for the team’s curfew room check, and left to go to the bar afterward.
Boykin and junior wide receiver Preston Miller were arrested in an incident at Pat O’Brien’s, 121 Alamo Plaza, a bar about a block away from the Horned Frogs’ team headquarters at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. It started with TCU players, including Boykin, allegedly scuffling with patrons.
Boykin was arrested following an altercation at a San Antonio nightclub. McManus said that he was swinging and struck an officer in the face.
Bram Kohlhausen figures to start in Boykin’s place versus the Ducks at the Alamodome to close out TCU’s season.

TCU played without Boykin for 2½ games earlier in the season after he sustained a sprained ankle against Kansas. He says Boykin has made some mistakes but the program isn’t built on one player. “He was being heckled and he responded to it, unfortunately”. He said the quarterback still has the support of his teammates. The senior finished his career with 10,728 yards passing and 86 touchdowns. White caught 19 passes for 258 yards, Nixon picked up 66 yards on 16 catches and Doctson led them all with 79 receptions for 1,327 yards and 14 touchdowns.
