Trevor Noah gets ready to make the Daily Show his own

It is incredible news that Trevor Noah has just been appointed host of The Daily Show in New York. “When it matters, there should always be pressure”.

That doesn’t clarify a whole lot, but it’s very clear that Noah will be working to make The Daily Show his own as time goes on.

I ask Noah if he turned to comedy because the only way to deal with hardship was by laughing. He recalled her words in an interview with GQ a few months ago: “I’ve got half a nose now”. “One thing I’ve loved about Jon Stewart is the same thing that I love about what I do”. “I’m the wildcard – so they’re the ones that should be afraid”. He’s got the expensive-looking wooden desk, the this-is-a-serious-news-show world map and monitors aplenty for skewering Fox News (and MSNBC, if he is to be an equal opportunity critic) in high-definition. Or is there a grumpy audience that’s already thinking — to paraphrase Lloyd Bentsen’s 1988 vice-presidential debate takedown of Dan Quayle – “We knew Jon Stewart”.

The old “Daily Show” set has been donated to the Newseum.

“I hope in time to have the same impact”, he said.

Donald Trump is an interesting one, because the truth of the matter is he doesn’t say much, and really what we’re doing is enjoying the spectacle of it all”, Noah said.

Noah’s first musical guest will be Ryan Adams, who has made an album covering Taylor Swift’s “1989” disc. He’ll be on October. 1. And people have gone, “Wow, this is unbelievable”. Noah talked about the show no longer being dictated by cable news, but reacting to things that break and develop on Twitter and recognizing that Snapchat exists.

Noah also admitted that he feels the pressure to succeed more because of Stewart’s legacy. If the new show date is not convenient refunds will be available from our Box Office.

Meyer would soon discover that Noah was different than other South African comedians. Noah will kick off the week on September 28 with Kevin Hart as his first guest. Whitney Wolfe, the Tinder cofounder turned Bumble CEO, is, according to Noah, “a powerful – like myself – new voice in a space, but from a female side”. The million-dollar question for Noah, of course, is his own political persuasion, and how it might inform the show.

Take covering the recent Republican debates: Noah said he and his team worked together to figure out how to stay true to the show’s brand and to his sensibilities simultaneously.

“I come from a insane place”, he says. While many viewers will continue to watch The Daily Show on television as they have always done, others are more likely to experience it online.

Well, no – at least not initially. Adams is only going to be the beginning of the transformation of the daily show into a show where artists can come and promote their work. You look at how it helped us get over 9/11. They are not in the same building every day, so it’s harder. We wanted to go with someone where we’re not saying friend or enemies, but let’s have a Republican on and let’s have an honest conversation about this. “Trevor and Larry never overlapped on the show”.

On Monday Noah has the nearly impossible task of replacing Stewart not only as an entertaining host, but as a news commenter for millions of people. “He wasn’t gung ho”.
