Trevor Siemian named Broncos’ starter for Week 3

He was 10-of-13 for 99 yards with a touchdown and an interception for the game.

After the pick, Kubiak pulled Siemian in on the sideline, wrapped his arm around his waist and offered a few words and a pat on the back. Meanwhile, Siemian was 7-of-12 for 88 yards and didn’t throw a touchdown or interception. “I have to be able to bounce back”.

Mark Sanchez started the preseason opener against the Chicago Bears. It’s hard playing like crap on two plays and then ruining an opportunity.

“I trusted the read, took a chance and broke on the ball”, Reid said. “There’s no excuse for that”.

The turnovers and mistakes have been persistent issues for Sanchez throughout his seven-year career, and they’ve been ones he has yet to shake in his tenure as a Bronco. And then he threw a pick. He also started the Week 2 preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers and threw a bad pick-six to Eric Reid (watch here). Hyde came out a couple of plays for an unknown reason – Kelly wasn’t aware of it – and was examined by the team’s medical staff before he returned to score his touchdown.

All along, I’ve had the feeling that Kubiak felt a bit better with Sanchez in the game than Siemian. What is significant is that Kubiak is also looking at Lynch after Sanchez’s poor performance in their first two pre-season matches.

“I think they all had their ups and downs tonight”, Anderson said of the quarterbacks. A third-down incompletion on the first series was followed by a third-down completion short of the first-down marker on the next drive. Then, after looking decent, he threw a awful pick-six and it was time for the bench. Mark gets in and is fine but the next thing you know he’s getting stripped-sacks. “I’m going to make a decision next week and we’re going to go to work”. It’s down to the nitty-gritty here and we don’t have to, but I’m going to make a decision next week and we’re going to go to work. His outing, peppered with three sacks and an interception, included the first and second touchdowns of his National Football League career. His passer rating is 86.3.

“I’m going to play the guy that I think is best for our team”, Kubiak said.

“A lot of guys were here last year and we dealt with the situation last year”, tight end Virgil Green said. Obviously (Lynch) is a young kid. They’ve all done good stuff. “He took a pretty good shot on it when he made that tackle”. I think I’ve continued to tell you guys that he is behind the others from a knowledge standpoint as far as running the group.

If Lynch keeps showing improvement, it would seem to be a pretty good bet that we’ll see him playing at some point this season after the team just used a first-round pick on him.

“We have three quarterbacks, two of which weren’t on this team previous year and one that has one regular-season snap”, coach Gary Kubiak told reporters on Monday. But he refused to set a firm timetable. Kubiak said after that Lynch has “always been in the mix” for the starting job.
