Trevor Story’s home run streak ends

The Rockies took an early 2-0 lead on two-out hits from Trevor Story and Carlos Gonzalez but starter Jordan Lyles was never sharp, struggling to get through the first three innings before finally being pummeled out of the game by a six-run explosion from the (until then) punchless Padres offense.

His home run on Friday cut the San Diego Padres’ lead to 6-5.

In the fifth, Kemp launched the Padres’ first home run of the season, a three-run shot.

Orioles 6, Rays 1 • Host Baltimore hit four solo home runs off Chris Archer and is off to its first 4-0 start since 2011.

The Padres didn’t have to do that because Pomeranz struck out Story twice and got him on a flyout to right.

Story also had a single in his second at-bat of the game.

Schwarber and center field Dexter Fowler collided while chasing a ball in the left-center-field gap. In total, the score of the series was Dodgers 25, San Diego Padres 0.

San Diego proceeded to scored six runs in the fourth inning, when they snapped the streak.

San Diego Padres rookie Colin Rea makes his first start of the season this afternoon against the Colorado Rockies in Coors Field.

After the 2015 National League championship flag was raised above the right-field stands at Citi Field, deGrom (1-0) pitched six sharp innings in his season debut and even knocked in the first run with a groundout.

Cory Spangenberg’s bases clearing triple opened the floodgates for the Padres and put the nail in the coffin on Lyles’ day.

Story went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and now has seven homers. Then when he gets a pitch to hit, he’s not missing it… He went into the Rockies home opener with four home runs in 14 at-bats looking to keep his historic run going after fulfilling a request from the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown donating his batting helmet and batting gloves with which he started the season.

Colorado did win three challenges, including two safe calls by first base umpire Marvin Hudson that were reversed upon replay in the sixth. He could not recall ever hitting six home runs in four games at any level of baseball before. De La Rosa did not receive a decision in a 10-5 win at Arizona where he gave up five runs on eight hits over 4.2 frames. Enter reliever Chris Rusin, who gave up a two-run double to Yangervis Solarte. De La Rosa is 8-6 with a 4.87 ERA in 27 career appearances (23 starts) against the Padres and struggles against Kemp, who is hitting. “We’re going to have a lot of stressful times in the next 158 games”.

“It’s been kinda surreal”, Story said in a packed interview room after the Rockies’ 13-6 loss to the Padres.
