The national ranking of the top 500 high schools was released this week, and Ames High landed at No. 418 on the list. “Unfortunately we have no record of receiving the request for data that Newsweek indicates was sent to the district”.

The highest ranked Colorado school is Colorado Early College Fort Collins, which was ranked No. 66 nationally. This score took into account college enrollment, graduation rate, dual enrollment, ACT/SAT score, student retention and counselor-to-student ratio. In collaboration with research partner Westat, Newsweek presented an “absolute” list evaluating schools on a broad range of criteria in order to “identify schools that excel at preparing students for college and overcome the obstacles posed by socioeconomic inequality”.

Ames High is listed as having a graduation rate of 94 percent, with a college-bound rate of 91 percent.

Raleigh Charter is No. 100 on that list, Chapel Hill High is No. 186 and Carrboro High is No. 280.
