Tributes For David Bowie, Adele’s Big Wins Highlight The Brit Awards

Adele also won awards for British Female Solo Artist, British Single for “Hello” and Mastercard British Album Of The Year for “25” as she emerged as the big victor at the Brit Awards 2016, in association with Mastercard. The “Hello” singer made waves online when she swore during her acceptance speech for her Global Success award which was presented to her from space by Tim Peak. Lennox called Bowie, who died of cancer last month, “a quintessential visionary” and “the ultimate iconoclast”.

Lorde performed with Bowies band David Bowie was a huge fan of Lorde, so it was only fitting that the singer joined his band to perform Life On Mars.

“25” has sold over 19 million copies worldwide, and the award brought her to four wins for the night, equaling Blur’s record.

She also closed the night with “When We Were Young“, one of several performances – including The Weeknd, Drake teaming up with Rihanna, and a tribute to the late great David Bowie.

British group Coldplay had kicked off proceedings with their song “Hymn for the Weekend”, and also picked up the award for best British group.

For the best British Group, Coldplay won the award, which is their fourth British group win, and dedicated it to musicians around the world who are in refugee camps.

“I got really lost for a while and I didn’t know if I’d ever come back”, she said, referencing the writer’s block that delayed her much-anticipated third album. “Everybody has their ups and downs”.

Justin Bieber and Bjork were named International Solo Artists and Tame Impala won International Group.

Award hosts Ant and Dec were taken by surprise when a model wearing a mostly see-through all-in-one outfit came and stood between them as they announced singer Jess Glynne’s performance.

“He’s very good at a pool table, that’s the first thing I noticed”.
