Sean Michael Angold, 24, Morrison Haze Lampley, 23, and Lila Scott Allgood, 18, were arrested around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday in Portland, Oregon, on suspicion of the fatal shooting of 67-year-old Steve Carter in the Loma Alta Open Space Preserve, Marin County sheriff’s officials said earlier today. Late Thursday, San Francisco police reported that the trio will also be charged with murder in the death of Audrey Carey, 23, who was found beaten and shot in Golden Gate Park last Sunday. San Francisco police have not yet said what the suspects had that belonged to Carey, but they say the three will be charged with murder and robbery.
They were arrested after investigators tracked them using the Global Positioning System in a vehicle that was stolen from Carter when he was killed, authorities said. Following the arrests in the Carter case, two SFPD investigators flew to Oregon to talk to the suspects, Andraychak says.
A hiker found Carter’s body less than an hour after deputies responded to a report of shots fired and didn’t see anything suspicious.
San Francisco police said in a statement that investigators saw similarities in the two shootings, including the locations in wooded areas.
Three derelict young adults have been taken into custody as suspects in the death of a well-known tantric sex therapist.
Authorities have said the three suspects are drifters. Portland police officers, a few undercover and a few in tactical gear, gathered at the church while the three ate lunch Wednesday, arresting them as they exited. Carter was still holding the leash of his dog, which was also shot. According to Carey’s friends in Canada, she was visiting San Francisco for the first time on a backpacking trip. A few of the hall’s regular diners told her the three suspects were asking if anyone wanted to buy a Volkswagen Jetta station wagon, Chapman said. Pittman has said it was unclear if Carter might have been targeted for his auto or other belongings. The 23-year-old was found near one of the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass stages Saturday morning.
“We have been contacted by a number of agencies, a small handful, who have had similar crime in their jurisdiction, not only recently, but in the last couple of years”, Marin County sheriff’s Lt. Doug Pittman said.
The SFPD says that Carey’s murder remains an active investigation. The Doberman pinscher is expected to recover.
