The three explosions on Koulfoua were carried out by females, said Chad police spokesman Paul Manga.

“The young girls blew up themselves in the local market leaving at least 28 people dead and scores injured”, he said.

The Lake Chad region, which straddles the borders of Chad, Cameroon, Niger and Nigeria, has been regularly targeted by the extremists.

Chadian lawmakers have adopted a law to extend the state of emergency for a period of four months on November 18.

The deadliest attack on Chad’s side of the lake took place on October 10, another triple suicide, which killed 41 people at Baga Sola, according to N’Djamena.

Boko Haram’s 6-year uprising has killed some 20,000 people.

Since the start of the year, the Chadian army has been on the front line of a regional military operation against Boko Haram, whose attacks have spread from northeast Nigeria, its traditional stronghold, to the country’s three Lake Chad neighbours.

The statement also listed the names of 12 alleged Boko Haram members, including a Niger national, who had been arrested in Abuja and the neighboring towns between October 29 and December 1.

The U.S. Embassy in Nigeria said on Friday it had received information that groups “associated with terrorism” may be planning attacks against hotels in the country that are frequented by Westerners.

One of the nine men arrested was carrying out surveillance of a “high-profile hotel”, said Nigeria’s Department of State Security.
