Tristan Thompson will not attend LeBron James’ pre-training camp in Miami

Thompson decided to skip James’ camp in order to avoid an impression of him returning to the Cavs’ fold despite the fact that contract negotiations have been moving on slowly. Regardless of what contract Tristan Thompson eventually signs, he’s going to play for one more season with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Billionaire Detroiter and Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert might not love everything about his alma mater, but he hinted today about the possibility of a significant gift coming to Michigan State.

While it should not come as a surprise for any other player, especially if they are still unsigned, it does somehow indicate the severity of Thompson’s current case as far as contract disputes are concerned. However, Thompson’s agent, Rich Paul, who also represents James, stated that if Thompson does not get a max contract, he would not remain in Cleveland after the season.

From the feuding with LeBron James to getting his arm torn out of its socket in the first round of the postseason, past year was largely a wash for Love in Cleveland. However, if Thompson does indeed accept the one-year deal, he has already made it known he will be looking for a new team next year.

According to Thompson’s agent, there are three teams prepared to give the fifth-year player a max deal, with the Toronto Raptors leading the charge to do so. Love likely will be ready for the season opener and it comes after he signed a max contract with the team in the offseason. But he also pointed out that a $94 million is too much for Thompson, who averaged 8.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game last season.
