Triumphant convention speech for Michelle Obama

And yet, even as he tweetstormed during the big speeches of the convention Monday night – especially during speeches by Warren, Cory Booker and Bernie Sanders – not a word about the first lady, even as she made a very forceful case against him in no uncertain terms. But the Vermont senator managed to lift the mood by reminding his followers of their success in nailing progressive planks to the platform, by insisting Clinton “must be” president “based on her ideas and leadership”, and in warning what a Trump presidency “would mean to civil liberties, equal rights and the future of our country”. Voters who are considering Trump because they want to send a message to Washington, she implied, must consider the cost of sending a national embarrassment to the Oval Office. While her dress was understandably overshadowed by the speech Obama delivered – which effectively eviscerated Republican nominee Donald Trump without ever mentioning his name – make no mistake: her decision to wear a Christian Siriano design was likely a measured one. “And Hillary Clinton has never quit on anything in her life”, Mrs. Obama said.

Maci and Destiny even encouraged one young man to watch the speech on a smart phone.

“FLOTUS” is the first lady of the United States, and “POTUS” is the president.

Martha McKenna, a former political director for Senate Democrats, said it looked like Mrs. Obama was having fun on the stage, “so I’m hopeful that that’s a sign that means that she’s going to keep doing it”.

Clinton, she said, did not get angry.

Clinton’s nomination came on the second day of the Democratic National Convention, where leaders sought to move past the drama of divisions between Clinton and Sanders supporters. Tamir Rice’s mother, Samaria Rice, is expected to take the stage with “Mothers of the Movement”. Class, composure, and intelligence flow through Michelle Obama like blood flows through the rest of us.

Most notable, was her affront on Trump’s campaign slogan.

She talked about her daughters, and of the challenges she and the president- and all other parents- face in providing them with good examples of adults they should aspire to be like. Michelle has spent the last 8 years making us feel *beyond* #blessed, and we’re so grateful to have been able to have her as an icon, a role model, and a representative of our country. “I am exhausted of the stranglehold that women have had on the job of presidential spouse”, Bill Clinton said.

Obama’s husband, President Barack Obama, for years has drawn praise for his oratorical skills.

“I want a president who will teach our children that everyone in this country matters – a president who truly believes in the vision that our founders put forth all those years ago: That we are all created equal, each a beloved part of the great American story”.

The most important order of business: Democrats will officially make Clinton the first female presidential nominee from a major party with the roll call vote.

But also introducing himself to the nation Wednesday night will be Tim Kaine, just days after being tapped by Clinton as her running mate.
