Trooper shot during traffic stop

A Louisiana State Police Trooper was shot in the head during a traffic stop in Calcasieu Parish and was in “very serious” condition as of late Sunday afternoon, said state police spokesman Sgt.

The trooper has been transported to a Lake Charles hospital after being involved in the altercation.

Anderson says the suspect is in custody.

Authorities are not releasing the name and age of the trooper or the man who was arrested.

The accused shooter was also taken to a hospital, according to Anderson, but what injury the suspect sustained isn’t clear.

Colonel Michael D. Edmonson with the Louisiana State Police posted the following message to Facebook.

The state trooper was shot when he tried to stop a driver suspected of being drunk and under the influence of drugs, according to the Associated Press. James Anderson described the trooper’s wound as serious. He asked for prayers and well wishes for the officer and his family. The Leesville Daily Leader reports that the trooper was critically injured.
