Japan’s reigning junior world champion Shoma Uno said Saturday that the deadly terror attacks in Paris have left him at a loss for words. “Might’ve, going in to the first toe, I think I was thinking of the Axel and the Lutz, since I had missed it at Skate Canada”.
The Bompard Trophy is part of a six-event series, with placements determining qualifiers for the Grand Prix Final. Although he noted that the tactic would need to be approved by the ISU Council, he suggested that the results of the short program serve as “the basis for selection” to the Barcelona event.
“I wanted to skate in the free program but I am in no position to be talking about myself”.
“I regret to inform you that due to a day of mourning in France and the state of emergency, the French government has chose to cancel the end of the Trophee Bompard”, French figure skating federation president Didier Gailhaguet said.
Earlier Saturday, the ISU expressed its sympathy for the victims, but initially chose to continue with the Grand Prix event following a minute of silence before the free programs on Saturday.
In a separate statement, U.S. Figure Skating said it fully supported the move, adding it is working with local authorities to “to ensure the quick and safe return of Team US”.
USA silver medalist Gold pulled out a near flawless short program to the popular Argentinian tango music “El Choclo” to score a personal best 73.32 points at the Meriadeck ice rink.

“Had a lot of good things, successful, here that I had challenges with at Skate Canada”, said Chan, referring to the previous stop on the Grand Prix of Figure Skating circuit where he won gold. “Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the victims, their families and the people of France”.
