Satellite and Hurricane Hunter aircraft data showed that Danny degenerated into an elongated area of low pressure near the Windward Islands during the afternoon (local time) on August 24.

At 2 p.m. this afternoon, the low was 950 miles east of the Lesser Antilles and was moving westward near 20 mph.

Tropical Storm Erika formed on Monday night and will track toward the Leeward Islands later this week.

OTHER TROPICAL ITEMS OF NOTE: Another wave of disturbed weather is emerging off the west African coastline and this feature has a low chance of organizing through midweek.

The National Hurricane Center made the announcement Monday.

A tropical storm warning remained in effect for Antigua, Barbuda Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, and a tropical storm watch was in effect for Saba, St. Eustatius and St. Maarten.

Five storms have developed in the Atlantic Ocean this season with one major hurricane.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage from the storm in the Leeward Islands as the storm passed and into the northeastern Caribbean Sea.
