A tropical storm warning was in effect Wednesday morning for Ponte Vera Beach north to the Altamaha Sound in Georgia.

It is expected to track north-northwest almost parallel along the coast.

The Hurricane Center also said an isolated tornado was possible across coastal Georgia and southern SC on Wednesday.

Ian, the ninth tropical storm of this year’s hurricane season, strengthened slightly overnight in the Central Atlantic. It is expected to reach Iceland by Sunday as a post-tropical system.

Using the Suomi NPP imagery and other satellite data, the National Hurricane Center noted “visible, infrared, and microwave satellite images indicate that Orlene continues to become more organized”.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami says Orlene emerged from a tropical depression early Sunday and is centered about 700 miles (1,125 kilometers) southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, Mexico.
