Tropical depression 12 is now about 225 miles west-northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands and is moving west at 14 mph, packing maximum-sustained winds of 35 mph.
Tropical Storm Julia has formed along the northeastern coast of Florida.
WIND: Tropical-storm-force winds are already occurring within the tropical storm warning area.
The storm was expected to produce as much as 10 inches of rain on the northeastern Florida, Georgia and SC coastlines through Friday, raising the possibility of flash flooding, the center said. Isolated rainfall totals of up to 10 inches are possible in some areas. The rain could cause flash flooding.
Far northeast Florida and southern North Carolina are forecast to get 1 to 2 inches of rain. It said heavy rainfall along the coast could create risky flash flooding, especially if it hits around high tide.
Julia has now been downgraded to a tropical depression. Also with the ridge in place, we see no really widespread, beneficial rain, which is very much needed across the state.
Students were told to report to school in Glynn County, but officials warned parents that some bus delays were possible because of the rain.
Georgia Power officials said fewer than 100 homes and businesses were without electricity Wednesday morning along a 60-mile stretch of the Georgia coastline between Brunswick and Savannah.
While a super typhoon was wreaking havoc in East Asia, a little tropical storm named Julia formed in Florida on Tuesday night.

Forecasters say the storm won’t directly affect Central Florida today, but did leave extra moisture in the area, increasing the chance for strong storms this afternoon. In the Pacific, Hurricane Orlene continues to weaken, with maximum sustained winds of 85 miles per hour (140 kph).
