Travis says moisture from Tropical Storm Patricia in the Pacific will feed into this slow-moving weather system, increasing the threat of flash flooding. GOES-West is managed by NOAA, but the image was created by the NASA/NOAA GOES Project at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Maryland.

A hurricane warning was issued for a stretch of coast from Cabo Corrientes to Punta San Telmo, including the resort area of Puerto Vallarta, with the storm located about 240 miles south of Acapulco late last night local time. A Tropical Storm Watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, generally within 48 hours. A tropical storm watch is in effect for western Guerrero from East of Lazaro Cardenas to Tecpan De Galeana, as tropical storm conditions are possible within these areas by late Thursday or early Friday.

Patricia is presently moving west-northwest at 17 miles per hour – 28 km/h.

According to current forecasts, the centre of the storm should approach the coast of southwestern Mexico tomorrow.

It was expected to strengthen, and to reach hurricane strength by Thursday. The U.S. National Hurricane Center says additional strengthening is forecast and Patricia is expected to become a hurricane on Thursday.
