Three separate tropical systems are menacing western Florida, the Outer Banks and Hawaii this week.
This Gulf system will bring some rain to some areas south and east of Atlanta.
Tropical Storm Hermine will turn toward Florida with heavy rain, gusty winds and the risk of flooding late this week. The season officially ends in late November. Meanwhile, a tropical storm warning remains in effect for parts of the Tampa Bay area. “I’ve heard 80 miles per hour winds are coming”.
The depression that’s upgraded to a storm first will be named Hermine. Because of the significant probability to see strong gusts, Tropical Storm watches are in effect for Big Bend counties, and there is also a slight possibility that the depression could reach hurricane status before landfall. Eventually heading into central/northern Florida Thursday.
Lake County can expect two bands wet periods over the next 48 hours, one this afternoon and evening and another tomorrow evening, according to forecasters. The storm is expected to cross northern Florida and southeast Georgia on Friday.
Center spokesman Dennis Feltgen said a hurricane watch is issued even if the official forecast is only for a tropical storm, if there is enough uncertainty in the future of a system that will be in an environment favorable for development.
Hurricane Hunters this morning also were investigating a tropical depression in the Atlantic that is expected to impact North Carolina later today or early Wednesday.
The storm will then continue up the East Coast giving way to clearing conditions across the Carolinas by Sunday.
Tropical Storm Hermine was centered about 395 miles south-southwest of Apalachicola, Florida, as of Wednesday afternoon. It was moving to the northwest at 7 miles per hour.
National Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Hermine has formed in Gulf of Mexico.
Most coastal areas were expected to have cloudy conditions and possibly thunderstorms through Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, however, and there could be heavy rain in southern sections.

The surge will be higher at points north, closer to where the storm is expected to make landfall in the Big Bend area, so it could exceed three feet in Hernando county.
