– For the first time, the National Weather Service issued a storm surge warning. If it attains hurricane strength before landfall, it would be the first hurricane to hit Florida since October 2005.
Damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and high surf are anticipated Wednesday and Thursday for the Big Island, the Central Pacific Hurricane Center said.
Which areas are getting the most rain so far?
Heavy rain and some flooding may not be the only concern for coastal North Carolina.
Keep in mind, however, that impacts related to this system are already affecting Florida. The hurricane center gave the system a 40% chance of developing into a depression or storm within the next five days.
“This is the wake up call”, he said. “The storm is probably just going to pass by us”.
“You don’t pronounce it like Hermione in Harry Potter”, Carlisle said.
Otherwise, he said, the storm shouldn’t be a problem for most Orange County residents.
How much longer will it keep raining? This storm will weaken before it nears Hawaii by the end of the week.
“I live on a hill so the water comes down”, Wilson said. At least several inches could fall which may lead to freshwater flooding.
“We took the generator out, ran some gas through it to make sure it was running”, Burke said. Courthouses in Dixie, Lafayette and Taylor counties are shuttering half of Thursday and all of Friday. Nearby Manatee County also closed schools.
According to the National Weather Service, the storm will track over Southeast Georgia Thursday and Friday, bringing heavy rains and winds of 30 to 40 miles per hour, causing downed trees and powerlines. Based on the latest forecast from the National Hurricane Center. Residents must show proof of residence. Tampa International Airport, by comparison, recorded 2.76 inches of rain by 5 p.m. and Albert Whitted Airport in St. Petersburg recorded 3.26 inches.
