Trott dominant as she hammers omnium field
Jason Kenny matched Chris Hoy’s Great British record of six Olympic gold medals after his fiancee Laura Trott became Team GB’s most decorated female Olympian on a dramatic final night of track cycling in Rio.

There was a tense end to the track cycling meeting when Kenny was among the riders to be in danger of being disqualified, but after uncertainty they were given the all clear.
But jurors reviewed film and decided on a full-field restart. Matthijs Buchli from the Netherland took home the silver.
Trott subsequently tweeted: “Arghhhh!”
She said: “We love living in Macclesfield. Our kids have to get some of these genes right?!”
Currently, however, were they an individual nation they’d sit above the likes of Spain, hosts Brazil and New Zealand in the 2016 medal table.
Trott, who won team pursuit gold on Saturday, took a commanding advantage into Tuesday’s points race, which concluded the six-discipline omnium.
A photo of USA swimmer Joseph Schooling meeting his inspiration, the record-breaking Michael Phelps, went viral this year after Schooling BEAT him to the gold medal in the Men’s 100m butterfly – and set an Olympic record in the process.
Trott set the second fastest time in the 500m time trial to lead on 156 points, ahead of Jolien D’Hoore (144) and Sarah Hammer (140).
It was safe to say that Kenny’s sixth golden triumph at an Olympic games was well worth the wait, even if the drama did create suspense that every British fan would have liked to have dealt without. “I’m glad she won, it makes her happy”.
Hoy, who was commentating for British television in Rio, handed Kenny his one defeat in an Olympics, beating his then 20-year-old team-mate into silver in the sprint in 2008.
Earlier on Tuesday, 29-year-old Giles Scott won gold in sailing’s Finn class, maintaining Britain’s sailing supremacy in the heavyweight dinghy event.
It happened again though, with German rider Joachim Eilers looking as though he clearly passed the derny as he accelerated at the top of the track.
Katie Archibald – Gold in women’s team pursuit.

Great Britain’s Nile Wilson added to the trophy cabinet by winning bronze in the men’s gymnastics horizontal bar.
