Los Angeles was 0-44 when trailing after eight innings until pinch-runner Taylor Featherston streaked home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth of Wednesday’s 4-3 win over Cleveland. Manny Machado had three hits.
Kevin Gausman’s last two starts were okay, but tonight he didn’t have his fastball command and the Angels made him pay for it. After a fairly quiet top of the first, Gausman struck out David DeJesus and Kole Calhoun before surrendering a solo shot to Mike Trout (on his birthday no less!) to make it 1-0 Angels.
The Orioles are 5-2 in their last 7 games following an off day and 4-9 in Gausmans last 13 starts.
Anyway, Nolan Reimold singled against Heaney to lead off the third inning.
In their past 10 games against one another, the Angels have averaged 3.5 runs while the Orioles have plated 2.8 runs per game. In 5 2/3 innings, Heaney conceded two home runs among the 10 hits he allowed, yielded four earned runs and a walk and struck out two.
Friday night’s game appeared to be a tremendous pitching matchup between two highly regarded 24-year-olds beginning to realize their potential.

The Angels tied it again as Gausman walked Trout and Albert Pujols to lead off the bottom of the fourth. Parra reached second on Calhoun’s throw, then tied the score when center fielder Adam Jones lined a single off the center-field wall.
Heaney left three batters later after designated hitter Junior Lake, in his first game as an Oriole, hit a two-out double down the third base line. Catcher Chris Iannetta doubled off the warning track in left-center field to bring two runs home, then scored when left fielder David De Jesus lined a single to right field. Chad Roe entered in relief and permitted a RBI single by David DeJesus to make it 6-4 Angels.

Cron’s homer went an estimated 456 feet on reliever Brad Brach’s first pitch. The ball was hit so well, Jones probably thought had a homer and didn’t run as fast as he usually does. Los Angeles would load the bases with two out but first baseman Albert Pujols popped out.
