Trout homers on Griffey’s day, but Angels lose 8
The Los Angeles Angels have an ERA of 4.43 and have lost six of their last eight games when allowing more than three runs.

In the fourth inning of a tied game, Seattle’s Leonys Martin lifted a would-be grand slam deep into center field.
Obviously, having Trout in the park as an opponent in a weekend that the Mariners were honoring Griffey, newly inducted into the Hall of Fame, was a delicious coincidence.
Mike Trout had a disappointing 25th birthday to cap yet another rough series for the Los Angeles Angels. He gave up eight runs in 1 1/3 innings on July 24 at Houston, and on Friday night in Seattle – just 20 minutes from his hometown – he gave up six runs in 3 1/3 innings.
Shawn O’Malley, who played 11 games with the Angels in 2014, then belted a three-run homer to give the Mariners their first lead of the night.
“There’s a reason for moving parts”.
“He hasn’t progressed from his first couple starts”, Angels manager Mike Scioscia told reporters on Saturday. He hit a 1-2 pitch from Walker 444 feet for his 21st home run of the season in the first.
“You can’t just fall behind and expect to blow fastballs by people”, Skaggs said. “I take today as a learning experience, there’s going to be ups and downs. I worked out of some jams”.
After consecutive singles to begin the sixth, Skaggs issued a walk to load the bases for Gutierrez, who had not made an out in three prior at-bats. Reliever Mike Morin fell behind 3-0 to Gutierrez, who was given the freedom to swing and popped up to shortstop for the second out. The Mariners left the bases loaded when Robinson Cano hit a high pop to short right field.
But Seattle capitalized in the seventh.
In the seventh, though, Valdez entered and got one out then he walked three straight hitters.
The Angels (49-61) have their own set of problems in the bullpen, and they cropped up again Saturday night as Los Angeles squandered another early lead.
“He looked good against Cruz”.
“It’s hard news to take, but Tim understands it”, Scioscia said. O’Malley turned on an 0-1 pitch from Deolis Guerra and drove it into the right-field seats for his second home run of the season.
“The fact it ended like that, it just seemed like a Griffey type of night”, O’Malley said.
“I just feel sick to my stomach for him”, Mariners manager Scott Servais said of Paxton, who was diagnosed after the game with a left-elbow contusion and is day-to-day.
Wilhelmsen came on to get the final two outs, earning his first save of the season on a day when closer Edwin Diaz was being given a pre-determined break. He pitched against Seattle recently giving up two hits and striking out one in one inning against the Mariners on July 26. Martin allowed only two hits, one of them an infield single.
SEATTLE (AP) – Tim Lincecum was designated for assignment on Saturday by the Los Angeles Angels, bringing into question the professional future for the two-time Cy Young Award victor.
Lincecum, now 32, pitched to a 9.16 ERA (44 ERA+) with a 2.37 WHIP in nine starts and 38 1/3 innings for the Angels after signing a one-year contract worth $2.5 million back in May.

Seattle erased a 1-0 deficit with three runs in the fourth inning off Matt Shoemaker (6-12), although the Angels prevented a bigger inning with two stellar defensive plays. Over his last 15 starts, Shoemaker has a 2.85 ERA.
