Truck attack on Nice was ‘premeditated’
French officials could not confirm on Monday that attacker Mohamed Lahouaiyej Bouhlel had been approached by an Algerian recruiter, saying that the investigation was ongoing.

Bouhlel’s rapid radicalization has puzzled investigators.
Bouhlel, who lived in Nice, was suspected by local police to have committed criminal offenses. His family have painted a picture of a man who suffered “psychiatric troubles” and was prone to depression and violent outbursts.
“This is not just symbolic”, said Le Drian.
Mr Bouhlel is devastated by his nephew’s act, and doesn’t want him buried in Msaken.
“Populism stalks us, ready to pounce at any opportunity, to blow on the embers of discord and exacerbate divisions, as every new division makes us more vulnerable”, Mr Valls said.
Numerous dead and injured were children watching a fireworks display with their families.
While some on the right think the six-month extension is not sufficient, there are also critics on the left concerned about civil liberties who say even with the state of emergency in place an attack occurred. Numerous dead and 308 injured were children.
But bitterness is also close to the surface.
Valls and his government has been criticised over the last 18 months for not doing enough to stop terror attacks in the country, following the Charlie Hebdo attacks last January and the Paris massacre in November.
President Francois Hollande had last Thursday announced a plan to lift the emergency measures, but changed tack hours later after a truck was driven through crowds of people at Bastille Day celebrations in Nice, killing 84 people and injuring more than 200 others.
Thirteen of the victims have not yet been identified, he said. “Quite the opposite. We should be uniting together and defending the country”, said Boubekeur Bekri, adding that “a crime is a crime” regardless of faith.
Berkeley student Tarishi Jain was among the hostages killed by militants in Dhaka, Bangladesh, earlier this month.
Cook, who was traveling in Europe and came to Nice to assist Stratton, said a French man aided Stratton in the critical period after the attack.
A family friend of a 22-year-old Australian woman seriously injured in the Bastille Day attack in Nice says a “wonderful stranger” stayed by her side throughout the ordeal and continues to visit her daily in the hospital. At Berkeley, he was a member of Net Impact, a student-run consulting group that provides marketing, research and social responsibility advice to non-profits and businesses focused on environmental sustainability.
Three other UC Berkeley students were injured in the attack, all suffering broken bones, according to the school statement.
Bouhlel and a 30-year-old French-Tunisian with no previous convictions had phoned each other 1,278 times in a year, Molins said.
