Trudeau to press India on climate change in Paris
“It require us to take action all around the world”, he said.

Mr. Trudeau, who insisted his government is now working hard on climate diplomacy to push other nations to agree to an ambitious deal in Paris, said he has a case to make to India’s leader.
“Canada is committed to aiding developing countries in reaching their emissions goals”.
“That’s the balance that President Hollande is looking for and that’s certainly what we encourage”. Countries in need will receive support, in particular the poorest and most vulnerable, to respond to climate change and adapt to its impacts.
The Canadian government has been “encouraging and cajoling” other countries to step up and sign on to ambitious targets, Trudeau said.
And while Mulcair said the Liberal government appears headed in the right direction, it needs to follow through. Details on how Canada’s most populous province intends to reduce carbon emissions to 15 percent below 1990 levels by 2020 (eventually achieving an 80 percent reduction by 2050) are expected early next year.
The huge Paris event is the 21 meeting known as the Conference of the Parties (COP21). “Islands in the Pacific and the Caribbean are having to deal with rising sea levels that could drive them from their homelands, and an onslaught of increased violent storms that is hampering their development”, he said.
Canada under Stephen Harper and Australia under former prime minister Tony Abbott were both criticized for being climate change policy laggards but Trudeau suggested the two countries have changed their tune. India is a country that could qualify for some of that funding. The prime minister noted that on Friday his government announced it would put $2.65-billion into those projects over the next five years.
“I think it’s very, very important for people to see they’re dealing with a different thing now in Alberta and hopefully they’ll view our efforts to engage in worldwide trade more positively as a result”, Notley told reporters Saturday morning.
Trudeau was participating in a Commonwealth summit in Malta before heading to the French capital for the UN-sponsored climate conference.
British Prime Minister David Cameron said the Commonwealth “can be a force for good around the world” and urged his fellow leaders to eliminate the “cancer” of corruption. “It represents a doubling of Canada’s previous climate announcement”, Environment Minister Catherine McKenna said during a teleconference.
Hollande, as president of the country hosting the November 30-December 11 conference, was invited to the Commonwealth talks with United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
