Trudeau under fire in final campaign sprint

They vote for Members of Parliament, and the leader of the party that wins the most seats generally becomes Prime Minister.

Ana Curic, a spokesperson for Kenney’s campaign, wrote in an email that “the Liberal Party of Canada opposed this legislation, and has consistently opposed legislation that would ban such exploitative business practices”.

“We have seen in a number elections now where polls have misled us”.

But Judi McLeod of the Canada Free Press has been documenting how Obama is planning the “fundamental transformation” of Canada by taking down Harper’s government and bringing to power a progressive majority assembled from Canada’s Liberal Party and New Democratic Party (NDP), an affiliate of the Socialist worldwide.

He has come out strong against appeals to legalise marijuana and he has opposed a ruling by Canada’s top court that allows people to take the oath of citizenship wearing face coverings or niqabs.

Conservative Leader Stephen Harper hammered home his consistent campaign message of low taxes and financial stability to a Quebec audience today, telling them the economy is the No. 1 priority.

“What the debate has appeared to have done is put a dent into NDP support in Quebec”, Telford explained.

“They hope to scare people off in order to continue to vote for Conservatives”, stated Wallace Chan, a host on Fairchild Radio, to CBC News.

“Offer them a ride to the polls, babysit their kids”, he said.

“Justin [Trudeau] refuses to acknowledge the damage that drugs do to families and communities”, said Harper.

He said that, by focusing on drugs and brothels, the ads show that the Conservative Party thinks the Punjabi community “can be manipulated”, and that the community doesn’t seriously consider all the issues affecting Canada as a whole.

That’s prompted him to look beyond candidates running for a helping hand, but options are limited.

Zussman, who wrote a book on transitions and who has talked to the Liberals and the opposition New Democrats this year, said Trudeau’s aides should have started preparatory work many months ago and by now should have a thick binder. Interestingly, the best years for “conservatives” was the John Diefenbaker era, although the last decade of the Harper government is only marginally behind.

“That part is very disturbing”, said former Conservative cabinet minister Stockwell Day.

As the signs seem fairly clear that Canadians probably are leaning towards change, but they don’t want it all at once, nor do they want something that’s too drastic, they are likely to seek out a moderate option, which traditionally is associated with the Liberals. Day was in Kelowna to campaign last week.

But if you support the NDP and are thinking of voting Liberal for strategic reasons – even where the NDP has a good chance like in downtown Toronto among other places – I’d ask you to think again.
