HBO have been offering some updates on a number of their big shows, and there’s welcome news for anyone excited by Westworld or hopeful of more True Detective. Moreover, unlike Season 1, the second season utilized multiple directors.
“It’s not dead”, HBO head of programming Casey Bloys said at TCA Saturday.
Things have been very quiet on the True Detective front until the topic was brought up at the Television Critics Association Press Tour yesterday.
Despite the fact that showrunner Nic Pizzolatto has left the show to focus on another project, and that Michael Lombardo, Chief Executive of HBO, has admitted his fault with regard to the unpleasant rating of the second season, there are still significant followers anticipating a third season. The network wasn’t as quick to greenlight a third season, but but just when it seemed like they may be quietly cancelling the series, we discover there’s hope for Season 3 yet.
The second season of “True Detective” that starred Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn and Taylor Kitsch did not do as well as the first one, which was led by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.
But “I’m not sure we have the right take for a third season yet”.

While True Detective fans would love to see him step back into the role of Rust Cohle, that was just a fantasy due to the poor reception of season 2. Pizzolatto would supervise over a new writer, who would presumably handle the heavy lifting. If a third season is to come to fruition, it will likely be with Pizzolatto supervising another writer. “It’s a really valuable franchise for us”. Let us know in the comment section below!
