“I think it hits so close to home for many people, making the incredible response so special”.

That’s not, however, to say that all of these noms were widely anticipated.
The effort paid off with a nomination for top cast performance and for supporting actor Christian Bale, giving the December movie a leg up on its Christmas Day competitors – “The Revenant”, “Joy” and “The Hateful Eight”.
Elba picked up a second nomination for his TV work, as the lead in the crime drama “Luther”. On the movie front, Straight Outta Compton was recognized for the performance of its entire cast, despite the lack of recognition for any one of its actors in awards-season chatter thus far. Last year, for example, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jennifer Aniston and Naomi Watts were all nominated for SAG but did not make the shortlist at the Oscars. Once is an honour, twice is surprising, three times is a miracle.
Other notable nominations among the TV categories include Nicole Kidman, who will compete for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie for her divisive TV movie Grace of Monaco.
The movie “Trumbo”, which is about a blacklisted screenwriter, has received mixed reviews from critics but also did well, getting nods for best cast, best actor for Bryan Cranston, and best supporting actress for Helen Mirren.
The Screen Actors Guild Awards honor the best film and television performances of the year.
Sarah Silverman: “I Smile Back”, the Silverman-topped drama featuring the comedian in a raw turn as a reckless woman dealing with depression, has taken in $58,738 since opening in a few theaters in October. In fact, “The Martian” wasn’t nominated for any of the major categories.
Then more than 100,000 active members of SAG-AFTRA will vote for the final award victor. However, its other cast members, including Michael Keaton and Mark Ruffalo, weren’t selected in either the lead actor or supporting actor categories.
Leonardo DiCaprio got a best actor nod for his gritty performance in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s “The Revenant”.
Eddie Redmayne – Nominee for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role “The Danish Girl”: “It means a great deal to be recognised by my peers during such a wonderful year of filmmaking”.
The roughest morning of all, though, was had by films that were completely shut out.
Idris Elba was nominated for best supporting actor in the child soldier drama “Beasts of No Nation” and is the sole individual minority nominee in the movie categories of the 22nd annual SAG nominations announced Wednesday. Rooney Mara, Rachel McAdams, Alicia Vikander and Kate Winslet join her as supporting actress nominees. (Segel also was eligible as a lead).
