“Trumbo”, “Game of Thrones”, “Homeland”, “House of Cards” Lead SAG Award Nominees
The film will compete with Netflix war drama “Beasts of No Nation”, Wall Street comedy “The Big Short”, Catholic Church abuse probe “Spotlight” and rap movie “Straight Outta Compton” for best ensemble cast.

The SAG Awards are generally considered a strong predictor of who will score Oscar nominations, although the guild sometimes parts ways with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and there was plenty of buzz this morning among those whose favorites seemed to have been snubbed.
Celebrating the acting in television and film, the SAGs had a few surprises in its nominations announced today, like a nomination for Sarah Silverman’s troubled-housewife role in the little-seen “I Smile Back” in the Best Lead Actress category, and “The Hateful Eight” being shut out for Best Ensemble.
On the other hand, the lead actress category was relatively predictable – minus Jennifer Lawrence, who was not nominated for her role in “Joy”.
Eddie will face fierce competition from Bryan Cranston (Trumbo), Johnny Depp (Black Mass), Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant) and Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs).
The issue of diversity in the awards came to light this year, when the Oscars saw not even one non-white actor nominated for an Oscar – for the first time since 1998.
On the television side, the political drama House of Cards received three nominations, which included best cast, best dramatic actor for Kevin Spacey and best dramatic actress for Robin Wright.
If there’s a saving grace for the SAG awards, it’s television, the categories for which have made nods to Queen Latifah, Uzo Aduba and Viola Davis.
The SAG Awards will be simulcast live Saturday, Jan. 30 on TNT and TBS. The organization’s 2,200 members then vote on the winners.
But SAG Award voters are free to change their minds, notice Jon Hamm and Mad Men both moving back into nomination fields after being dropped from the rolls a year ago.
She is nominated alongside Rachel McAdams for “Spotlight”, Mirren for “Trumbo”, Rooney Mara for “Carol”, and Alicia Vikander for “The Danish Girl”. Several Oscarologists see the film getting nominated for at least an acting nod for Damon, but no such luck here.
Spotlight, with its heralded cast, was expected to rule, especially in the best supporting actor category (Mark Ruffalo and Michael Keaton), where it was surprisingly denied. The Golden Globe nominations come out Thursday.
Director & Producer F. Gary Gray on behalf of “Straight Outta Compton” – Nominee for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture: “SAG, this is phenomenal!”

The other nominated comedy ensembles are: The Big Bang Theory, Key & Peele, Modern Family, Transparent and Veep.
