Trumbo leads 2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations

Other than that, I think the SAG nominations were fair, overall.

In the Best Actor category, Bryan Cranston’s nomination for “Trumbo” surprised many.

“Trumbo”, a biopic about the 1947 Hollywood blacklist, led the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award nominations on Wednesday with three nods, including in the accolade’s top prize for best ensemble cast.

Nominations for best ensemble cast went to Beasts of No Nation, a war drama about child soldiers in Africa, and Straight Outta Compton, which charts the rise of hip hop group N.W.A.

Other nominees include “Beasts of No Nation”, “Spotlight”, “The Big Short”, “Straight Outta Compton”, and “Bridge of Spies”.

The 22nd Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG) nominations were announced on Wednesday (December 9). Notable films left off that list were “The Martian” and “The Hateful Eight”.

Cate Blanchett was nominated for her lead role in “Carol”, but will have to fight off firm competition from “Women in Gold” star, Dame Helen Mirren. The film, which is mostly seeing praise for Lawrence’s performance, didn’t get nominated at all.

In the best actor category, Leonardo DiCaprio was nominated for his work in the movie “The Revenant”, while Michael Fassbender made the cut for the title role in “Steve Jobs“, as did Eddie Redmayne for his work in the movie “The Danish Girl”. Larson’s Jacob Tremblay and Blanchett’s co-star Rooney Mara are additionally up for best supporting actor and actress respectively. Nominees are selected by separate movie and TV nominating panels, each comprised of more than 2,000 randomly selected SAG members, and the organization’s choices highlighted a few underdog performances. This prestige indie is far from dead, and it just goes to show that you should never underestimate the awards potential of movies that frame people who make movies as the real heroes.

There were more diverse individual nominees in television than film, though, thanks in part to the fact that TV divides nominees into comedy and drama, allowing for more inclusion overall.

Hollywood awards season continues on Thursday (midnight Friday AEDT) with the Golden Globes nomination ceremony. As usual, there are plenty of good picks, but also some very big snubs.

The film earned three nominations – Best Cast, Lead Actor for Bryan Cranston and Supporting Actress for Helen Mirren.

Actor in a drama series Peter Dinklage, Game of Thrones; Jon Hamm, Mad Men; Rami Malek, Mr. Robot; Bob Odenkirk, Better Call Saul; Kevin Spacey, House of Cards.

“Two of five best ensemble nominations are nearly entirely casts of color”. Ellie Kemper is getting some love for playing Kimmy Schmidt in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
