Trump accepts GOP nomination as ‘law and order’ candidate

Clinton also poked at the Republican Party’s lack of unity, highlighted by a speech in which Texas Sen.

Jeers erupted from Trump supporters in the crowd, and Cruz’s wife, Heidi, was escorted out by security amid the shouting.

But the win had come at the cost of a seriously divided Republican Party, where many prominent figures of the party, including two previous Republican presidents and two previous Republican presidential nominees refused to attend his crowning party.

“That leader is Donald Trump”.

Yesterday, I offered my resignation to Mr. Trump and the Trump family, but they rejected it. Mr. Trump told me that people make innocent mistakes and that we learn and grow from these experiences. Not Paul Ryan, whose speech sounded like a rousing endorsement for someone who most certainly was not Donald Trump.

“An attack on law enforcement is an attack on all Americans”, Trump said about police officers gunned down in Dallas, Texas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Trump said nation-building pursued by Clinton in Iraq, Libya, Egypt and Syria had made a bad situation worse. He blamed her for the rise of so-called Islamic State militants and blasted her willingness to accept thousands of Syrian refugees. He also disavowed America’s foreign policy posture under both Democrat and Republican presidents, criticizing “fifteen years of wars in the Middle East” and declaring that “Americanism, not globalism, will be our credo”.

John Podesta, chairman of the campaign of presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, described Trump’s vision of America as “dark” and called him unfit to lead.

Trump bragged about how much social-media attention his convention had gotten.

“We are going to build a great border wall to stop illegal immigration, to stop the gangs and the violence, and to stop the drugs from pouring into our communities”, Trump said. He listed off a litany of problems, many of which, he said, Clinton was directly responsible for: ISIS, the decimation of Libya, Benghazi (naturally). “Never ever. My message is that things have to change — and they have to change right now”, he said.

Ivanka Trump again tried to reach out to millennials by talking about student debt, aguing that her father “can’t bear the injustice of college graduates who are crippled by student debt”.

Trump also acknowledged the seemingly-insurmountable odds he defeated to become the Republican party’s nominee. And you know, he’ll come and endorse over the next little while. he’ll – because he has no choice.

“Beginning on 20 January, 2017, safety will be restored”. He has attracted millions of voters by pledging to toughen US immigration laws and renegotiate worldwide trade agreements.

He took positions in conflict with traditional Republican policies. Maybe it was Trump suggesting that Cruz’s wife was dowdy?

Earlier in the week, the convention was marred by allegations that Mr Trump’s wife, Melania, lifted sections of her speech from a similar one delivered by first lady Michelle Obama in 2008.

It was as though the Republican primary had never ended.
